Dolomite 1300. Seemed like a good idea. Obtained from RB, I measured every aspect of the thread, checked the depth clearance of the hole, used a touch of copper grease;all looked good - but would not do up quite tightly enough to stop oil drip. I could have used more force - but wanted to leave the sump still attached.
Has anyone had a better experience - I would like to try to catch my flakes of steel?
thanks

Don't use too much PTFE tape - put too much on and you're actually splaying the threads apart. Just enough to make the seal.Coarse threads need a bit more than fine threads. If you have a look at pre-taped fittings it's amazing how little is placed on there. The 'screw' will go in clockwise, so put the tape on anti-clockwise, otherwise it bunches into a horrible mess. Don't mean to teach anyone to suck eggs.
I recently bought some 'gas tape' from RS which is wider and thicker (and much more expensive) than the generic tape, but it's only good for coarse threads.

Re: Magnetic sump plug
Funny enough that's what I have had to do this very afternoon, new sump plug drip drip all over the garage floor, was gonna swap back to the old sump plug and change engine oil, located old sump plug put it down somewhere to drain oil and could not find it again
, so ended up fitting new leaky sump plug with ptfe tape, no more leaking, and tonight I found the old sump plug

Re: Magnetic sump plug
Surely there isn't going to be much magnetic swarf in the engine oil? A gearbox is an entirely different matter and that's why the BMC gearbox-in-sump engines all had magnetic plugs.
