Dirty sump with nuts!!!

#1 Post by Russetauto »

Hi all. Having spent the day dolomiting! I removed the sump from my 1850 for new gaskets and repaint. When the pan was off I found half an inch of sticky black sludge welded to the bottom of it below the drain plug and a half inch nut! Luckily it glued itself to the goo!! Lord knows how long it's been there?? But the moral of the story is maybe it's worth doing the same to all our cars the sludge was horrible and I can only presume any fresh oil would just mix with it so defeats the point of changing the oil??

Yes all seems in tact? Think someone was a lucky boy at some point in the cars past forty years. Looks like a cam carrier nut probably dropped down locking cam pulley at some point??
