Re: Stainless steel clutch hoses
My reason for enquiring about these is because I wanted to replace all my clutch hydraulics with the most reliable items available as the car was to be used as a daily driver. I have heard that the plastic clutch hoses can expand under pressure, making gear changes more difficult as there will be less movement in the slave cylinder piston.
The stainless steel clutch hoses are now available for ALL MODELS from TDC Spares for £45 inc postage. Ordering details in the Club Members forum.

There can be several issues with the plastic pipe, with age the plastic can go brittle and crack, it can soften causing ballooning which cause lose of pressure at the peddle and if not routed correctly can rub through on the bulkhead or engine . over the years I've had all three of these happen although I admit the pipe that rubbed through was my fault as I routed it in such a way it was touching the bulkhead.

Re: Stainless steel clutch hoses
I have never had a problem with the plastic type in the 40 years that my family has been driving 1500 dolomites so I do wonder how many people have suffered from this problem? The big problem I think most people have is getting all the air out of the system and wear in the linkage parts. Only recently did I discover how a small amount of wear in the clutch pedal linkage can cause the clutch not to fully disengage and when I was talking to a retired mechanic who used to work on dolomites he told me the garage he used to work in used to fit brass bushes in the pedal to take out the wear.
I have just found a photo of the clutch pedal wear that I discovered in one of my dolomites so I will attach that.

Re: Stainless steel clutch hoses
The issue is more with the rubber types rather than the plastic. 1300 and 1500 have plastic I believe, whereas on the Sprint and 1850 OE had a rubber section which suffered aneurysm in old age!
Re: Stainless steel clutch hoses
I've seen a lot of plastic pipes that have worn through or have at least been rubbing on the bulkhead or suffered cracking or other damage. out of all the FWD's and OHV's I have either put back on the road or stripped only a handful have had plastic pipes that could be reused.
On some I have sleeved the pipe with rubber fuel hose to protect them.
