Sprint Green Colour Codes

#1 Post by Tony Burd »

What greens were available for 75/76 Sprints, I have a car with a missing VIN that I need to replace but I am not sure what shade of green it is. I think it is either BRG or Brooklands, were both these available in 1975/76?

Thanks

I thought the greens available were Emerald early and Brooklands late. I don't recall British Racing Green on Triumphs i thought it was an
MG colour.

Methinks you are on the change point year, my 75 Sprint parts list gives only Emerald (65) and BRG (75) in green shades (Mallard is blue, allegedly) Having said that, I cant recall EVER having seen an emerald Sprint!

I'm pretty sure that Brooklands green is 76> and that, on Sprints at least, the change happened on the "series II - III" change point at VA 20000. I don't think the 2 colours were ever available concurrently.

Cheers guys I have just checked the V5 and it is actually a 77 car and post VA 20000 VIN, so looks like it must be Brooklands.

Thanks Tony

BMIHT website has a facility, you pay £6 and they'll e-mail one piece of information about the car from the VIN. I confirmed two cars' colours using this method last year.

According to my book BRG was only available upto 1975. Emerald was early and Brooklands was later.

...but by the end of ‘75 about half the total number of Sprints had been made and cars were hanging around for 2 years before being registered

i stand corrected, just checked it appears that there were 3 greens available for Dolomites shade 1 -emerald. shade 2 - BRG, Shade 3 Brooklands.
I don't ever recall seeing a BRG Dolomite but it does appear to be very similar to Brooklands, so maybe i have and assumed it was Brooklands. BRG appears listed in 1975. The BMH Certificate should sort it out though. Good luck.

The result is in, and the colour is........................
.
.
.
.

Code 75, British Racing Green.
I am very surprised I thought it was going to be Brooklands, but I guess Alun could be right, that it is a car that hung around before being registered? Anyway good to know.
