The flasher and the horn weren't working on my Sprint conversion. I have modified a 1500 loom to work with a Sprint engine.
I traced the problem to the connectors under the dash. Basically they are getting old and tried. The plastic multi-plugs aren't clicking together tightly and the electrical connectors themselves are coming out of the multi-plugs.
Can you still buy these multi-plugs? I can't find them anywhere. I fixed a similar problem with the rear wiring by throwing the lucas plugs away and replacing it with modern connectors that actually work. However that does involved allot of crimping and soldering and there are allot of wires under the dash. So original parts would be easier.
Lucas connectors
Re: Lucas connectors
Have you tried autosparks or carbuilder solutions
You can get the terminals out by using a narrow screwdriver to move a small tab out of the way, then you can extract the pin.
If you do it to the opposing connector then you can trial fit them to see what they are like.
You can then clean them up and maybe give them a little squeeze to make them tighter.

Re: Lucas connectors
The problem is the plastic parts, to be fair I don't think Lucas meant them to last 40 years. I will probably just strip off the connectors and fit a modern plug.oily66 wrote: ↑Sun Mar 10, 2019 11:34 am Have you tried autosparks or carbuilder solutions

Re: Lucas connectors
I’m sure Jeroen uses Lucas connectors on his halogen conversion wiring harnesses.
With any luck he’ll be along soon to tell you where he gets them from. I was short of a couple as some plank had cut some the headlight spurs and soldered them. Jeroen kindly supplied the bits I needed to complete the job as I couldn’t find the exact ones on line. However managed to find loads of other Lucas connector blocks and the appropriate pins - They weren’t easy to find, but are available.

Re: Lucas connectors
Autosparks and CBS both supply the male and female brass pins for the Lucas/Rists plug connectors. I buy them by the 100! But nobody I know of can supply the plastic plug bits themselves. I've been reduced to gutting every harness I can get my hands on to keep up with demand! I must say that I don't have a problem with latching these together, most of the plugs I replace have been melted!
I've also got a good stock of more modern (and more waterproof) plug and socket connectors, my problem with these is that the less expensive types only carry modern thinwall cable, not the typical 14/010 and 28/012 cabling used in Dolomites.

Autosparks actually do have some of the correct pattern, but at £15+ for a single 7 way plug and socket (they don't do the 9 way one) they aren't exactly cheap!
