Fitting air filter box hoses to an 1850

#1 Post by GTS290N »

Hi All,
I've asked before why those hoses are not fitted to an 1850, but are fitted to 1500s and Sprints, but no-one seems to know, so I'm going to approach from a different angle.
I'm thinking of trial fitting air intake hoses to the airbox on my 1850 to see what (if any) difference they make - can anyone suggest before the event any obvious pitfalls?

I think the 1500 needed them because of the carbs being directly above the exhaust manifold. The 1850, being crossflow, didn't get so hot on the carb side. The Sprint is a bit more tightly packed into the bay and tends to run higher underbonnet temps, so that got them too.

But colder air in the intake is always a good thing, go for it, I can't see a downside!

Put them on :D I had some tubing lying around, and Steve mentioned it before so fitted them to the side of the rad. Made hot running on very hot days better.

I had the airbox fitted the other way round on a 1850 once to have hoses connected to the fresh air box under the windscreen to have ram air. You could adjust the inlet sound volume by opening and closing the dash ventballs.

Thanks for all the inputs.
Love Jeroen's ingenuity, but I'll put them on facing forward!
