running issues, hardly running at all!

#1 Post by whydidistartthis »

Hi

Just bought a Sprint. Picked it up yesterday.
Started fine on the button. 50 yards down the road started spluttering, pulled over. It then evened out, so tried again same thing.
Any way after abit of fiddling, off I went got about 10 miles same thing again. No real fault found, but up and running. Got about 12 miles this time. decided to call it a day and called recovery.
Now home and can get it to run smooth at all. Its just so erratic. no constant misfire.
I am thinking points. There is fuel int he float chambers so dont think its fuel.
Any suggestions... ..help..

I'm guessing fuel; crud in the fuel tank blocking the needle valves in the float chambers. Or nasty fuel in the tank. Maybe.

Almost certainly crap in the fuel and carbs. If you are lazy like me, an entire bottle of redex might help clear it up.

So, Had a rummage in the lock up this morning and dug out a really old set of points and condenser.
Put them on and away we went. So hopefully this was the problem.

Need to reduce the dwell angle by about 5 degrees. Do I need a smaller points gap or bigger, been a long time since I have done this..
