How waterproof does it need to be? Also how thick are the originals? My memory is it was about 1/2 inch. But it might have been more. I ask cos I was thinking about one of the rubber or EVA foam sheets, maybe two layers. Could be cut to the right shape.
Also as I remember, mine was all one piece with some cross linking between the holes. Maybe it wasn't original - it tended to stay in place by habit more than owt else.

The 16v Slant 4 engine is more fun than the 3.5 V8, because you mostly drive it on the upslope of the torque curve.

Its main purpose is to make sure that fresh air feeds into the heater/vents, definitely not one piece if original as there is a 20mm gap at the forward drivers side for I assume water drainage and to alert the driver of any minor oil leaks from the engine bay by the delightfully smokey aroma of hot oil when the blower is on and you're stationary.
Current fleet: '75 Sprint, '73 1850, Daihatsu Fourtrak, Honda CG125, Yamaha Fazer 600, Shetland 570 (yes it's a boat!)
Past fleet: Triumph 2000, Lancia Beta Coupe, BL Mini Clubman, Austin Metro, Vauxhall Cavalier MK1 & MK2, Renault 18 D, Rover 216 GSI, Honda Accord (most expensive car purchase, hated, made out of magnetic metal as only car I've ever been crashed into...4 times), BMW 318, Golf GTi MK3 16v x 3
The original parts book does show them inexplicably handed.

Don't seem to be able to find any actual pictures of ones that are handed or two-peice. But there aren't many picturs on line, and they might all be of after-market ones.
The win's one is the same as Rimmer's.

None of the replacements are a moulded shape like the original one was, so handing is no longer a thing, the profile of the RB one is completely wrong (many posts on here saying it is too thick) but the Phoenix trim one is a pretty close match.

What height is the seal and how much too high - there are shed loads of slopiing D section ones on eBay from China for 5 or 6 squid for 4 meters. most seem to be 12 to 14mm and look like they'll squash down well - if they're tall enough to start with.
