Just a quick question the exhaust on my car exits on the left but i have seen a few exit on the right, why the difference and what one is right.

Early ones were in 3 pieces and exited on the left. There was a change in 1975 to a 4 piece exhaust which exited on the right and was used until Dolomite production ceased in 1980. The rear section of the later 1850 exhaust is the same as the Dolly 1500 rear section. Both types of 1850 exhaust are available in stainless steel from the Club.

Hope this helps.

Would the earlier system fit my 1977 1850HL? The later system seems very convoluted and restricting.

Yes! you have to fit it as an assembly and you may need a different gearbox mounting bracket and to swap the rear mount from right to left (bolt holes should be present) but that's about it! Gasflow on the earlier system is much better!
