Excess travel on Dolomite 1300 brakes

#1 Post by Magenta Auto Sprint »

I believe that I have excess travel on my brake pedal.
I have bled the brakes, put nearly a litre through the system, adjusted the rear shoes and have new discs and pads on the front.
I am now thinking of an overhaul of the master cylinder although it is not leaking and I have ordered new front hoses.

I asked the guy at Rimmers why the sprint front hoses had a different part number to the Dolly 1300, he said it was different and best to buy the hoses recommended for my car, I thought the front hoses were the same for the whole range? I thought they may be stronger.

any suggestions gratefully received.

Is it a tandem system? You can get a fluid bypass in the tandem master cylinder without it leaking...

Hi Malcom, First thing to do is clamp off all flexi hoses. The pedal should then be rock hard? if not you have m/cyl problem. If hard? release one clamp at a time and see what the pedal feels like. You should then find which area your fault lies.

Tony.

Myself and Alun posts just crossed Malcom.

The flexi hoses are the same on all the Dolomites.
Are you bleeding it with the handbrake in the off position?
Also check the peddle pivot and the clevis pin/ arm for damage or play.
Some people are like Slinky's, they serve no real purpose in life but bring a smile to your face when you push them down the stairs.
