I have a new water pump that I am ready to fit, I removed the impeller so as to fit the pump by tapping it in on the brass cage and then reinstalling the seal and impeller, however the new pump impeller is an interference fit on the shaft rather than a splined drive and is fitted with the white insert, so I wont be able to refit the impeller after installing the pump without a fair amount of tapping. I would obviously like to try and get this right first time as the pump was quite expensive and would appreciate any help if someone has fitted one of these. I saw a video on rb website fitting one to a stag engine in which they do tap it in. Any advice please.
Regards Terry.

There is a guide in the "members only" section which was written by the late great Jon Tilson. You can find the thread HERE

Re: sprint water pump advice
You may damage the insert by tapping. Also you will damage the bearing when it's that hard to have the impeller on. It should be pressed on the shaft then with the shaft supporting and not by the bearing in between. I think you have to assemble the pump complete and than fit at one piece. Maybe lubricating the hole and cage will make fit the assembly easier. I always round the sharp edge of the hole also not to damage the o rings when fitting.

Thanks for the replys
I read Jons write up and this was what I was going to try. but I would not be able to refit the impeller due to the interference fit. So well lubricated cage and hole and fully assembled pump it is then, wish me luck. Terry.
