1974/5 Toledo. Green but which green?

#1 Post by David Kirk »

Hi all,
I have just joined the club and forum.
In my mid 50s now but my first proper car as a 17 year old new driver was an N reg Toledo in Green. It went through many changes in the 4 years that i drove it (so did I) An 1850 engine and interior. Full roll cage. Spax dampers. Then children.... and then the scrap heap...... shame.

Anyway... what colour green would it have been?

I think Brooklands but I have seen some info that suggest not for that year.

I hope it was Brooklands as I have bought two Dolomites in that colour now!.

I hope you will teach me well.

Touch and go with the green, Brooklands arrived in 1976 along with Tahiti blue and russet brown. But the point is you like brooklands, so thats all ok then. I have a 1977 brooklands green MGBGT and it is a nice colour. Keep buying them, you can't have too many.

Earlier green was Emerald (65) I think?
Current fleet: '75 Sprint, '73 1850, Daihatsu Fourtrak, Honda CG125, Yamaha Fazer 600, Shetland 570 (yes it's a boat!)

Past fleet: Triumph 2000, Lancia Beta Coupe, BL Mini Clubman, Austin Metro, Vauxhall Cavalier MK1 & MK2, Renault 18 D, Rover 216 GSI, Honda Accord (most expensive car purchase, hated, made out of magnetic metal as only car I've ever been crashed into...4 times), BMW 318, Golf GTi MK3 16v x 3

Emerald was indeed an earlier green, but it is quite a vivid shade and even with the passage of years I don't think memory would confuse it with Brooklands.

Were Toledos ever released in Cactus or Laurel?

Agreed Alun, you definitely would not confuse Emerald and Brooklands!

Not Cactus (which was very pale anyway) but some early 2 door cars (71-3) came in Laurel Green like the one currently being restored by Chris Howells ("2 door Toledo" on here, see his resto thread) Laurel is the only green listed in my 73 parts list, not even Mallard is there (Mallard is officially a blue shade, but then Magenta is "officially" a red!)

Anything later than 73 would presumeably be BRG (code 75) This is listed in my Sept 75 Sprint parts list as a choice. Brooklands did not appear to supercede BRG until the 76 range rationalisation which also killed the Toledo, I don't think any Toledos would have been Brooklands.

Thanks all,

It definitely wasn't Emerald. It could have been British Racing Green I suppose.

I like the comment of Graham04. I do like Brooklands Green so I'll just keep thinking that's what it was and carry on pretending I have re found my youth again.

Thanks for your help.

Hello :)

Yes, genuine laurel green Toledo here.

I should try to update my resto thread as rather a lot has happened since my last update in February.

I think I can only recall seeing photos of one other laurel green Triumph, which is a Vitesse owned by a friend.

IIRC our Toledo Registrar has an Emererald Toledo, can't remember the registration number right now.
