Anybody got any help on a source of a dolomite petrol cap? Preferably a non-locking one.
The palls in the lock on mine have seized, probably for lack of use, and although I managed to get it off, and I've wd40'ed it, the key just wont turn anymore. I took it apart, but I just can't get that far into the barrel to free-up the palls.

Petrol cap replacement
The 16v Slant 4 engine is more fun than the 3.5 V8, because you mostly drive it on the upslope of the torque curve.

Have you tried submerging the petrol cap in WD40 or similar for a couple of days?GrahamFountain wrote: ↑Sun Jun 30, 2019 12:51 pm Anybody got any help on a source of a dolomite petrol cap? Preferably a non-locking one.

Re: Petrol cap replacement
Out of the hundreds of pics i have taken on my resto.
Looks like I never did the locking fuel cap.
However I did manage to strip it right down to the lock barrel as it was in a similar situation to yours.
Plenty of lubrication and as I remember a wire from a cup brush/stripping wheel to poke in it as they are really stiff..
I even got the sliding keyhole plate cover working.

Re: Petrol cap replacement
Sorry, should have posted that repeated treatments with the WD40 got it working again. Some of that was from disassembling and pouring lube past the o ring. Maybe could do with pointer to how the barrel comes out without smashing the damn thing with a bleedin' big 'ammer.

Re: Petrol cap replacement
I bought a cheap ultrasonic cleaning tank a while back and a couple of cycles through that have seen some previously seized ignition barrels rejuvenated, though since I've only found a key to fit one of them.

Don't know about ignitions, but the key to a tidy home is under the middle plant pot.
