Windscreen wipers
Did dolomites have the delay wipers options

Re: Windscreen wipers
My 1977 model certainly doesn't - just normal and fast speeds and a manual flick wipe function. It seems odd now that they didn't join up the thinking and make the wipers come on when you use the washers, but they didn't.

Re: Windscreen wipers
All this delay wipe, variable delay and wash/wipe combination is relatively new and didn't come into it's own till the late 80s so no, no Dolomite had this as standard.
There is, or was, a kit you could buy with a rotating speed control switch that turned the first speed into a variable delay time from 1 wpie every 2 minutes to continuous operation. I suspect a little surgery on the switch wiring would give you wipe to accompany the wash function, at least while the wash button was pressed. Though if you're being anal about it, I expect Jeroen could produce a circuit diagram to include a delay relay that would bring the whole thing up to date.
Despite all the mods i've included in the Dolomega's wiring, this is one set of circuits i've left alone, I don't actually feel the need to mess with the stock setup! And I don't know how many times i've cursed the more modern set in my wife's Picasso, that has a delay system that varies the delay time based on how fast you are going! And almost never delays the wipe at the right rate for much it is raining! Fortunately, it also has a one wipe flick function like the Dolomite's and that is what I use instead!

Re: Windscreen wipers
There is a little box of tricks called Smartscreen which I have on my MGB. The main advantage of this gadget is that no extra switches are needed. It is fairly simple to connect up to your existing wiper and washer wiring and then it works like this.
Flick the wiper for one sweep. This switches the box on. If you do nothing else it switches off after 30 seconds. However, if you flick the wiper again at any time from 2 - 29 seconds, then that is set as the delay and the box will then give a single sweep delayed by the time between your switchings. To cancel it, just flick the wiper once more manually.
All well and good. The difficulty comes that if you are having to switch it on and off because of varying rain/spray conditions, it is easy to forget where you are in the cycle and get muddled about whether it is on or off. Also if you decide you have got the delay wrong, you have to switch it off (with a flick), then switch it back on (with a flick) and then set the new delay (with yet another flick). Are you still with me? See how easily you can get in a muddle?
However it does operate the wiper when the washer is operated and gives three sweeps. https://www.smart-screen.co.uk/

Re: Windscreen wipers
There was a post back on July-Sep 2014 by Robert 352 on this forum regarding the installation of a Smartscreen intermittent wash / wipe controller that was controlled by the existing wash wipe switches. You might want to search back for that. Seems to work well but not cheap. Not sure if it is still available

Re: Windscreen wipers
It does involve some standard relays, an intermittent relay, a timer relay or an intermittent relay with a wash timer incl. Most customers do want some sort of when having a new loom in their classics especially when a washer switch is located on the dashboard half a meter away from a wiper switch.
For the Dolomites I did modify the switch. The flick/wipe I grinded the internal part of the plastic switch so when pulled through it would stay in that position what becomes the intermittent wiper position. The original two speeds remained this way, the flick/one time also. For the intermittent you can have a solid interval or adjustable by a control knob or set described as above with the stalk.
Some intermittent relay's have a wash/wipe funtion but most wipe after the wash. With a timer relay you can wash and wipe at the same time and have some wipes after the wash.
It's not all standard connected and all depends on what you exactly want. The Lucas wiper motor is not like the Bosch, SWF or better, like the rest of the world so most intermitent relay's need additional relay's to have a Lucas running and intermitting as you would like to.

Didnt know the dolomite wiper switch could be modified for intermittent wipe,i was going to use a stag switch only because it had the extra leaver switch built in as standard on the mk2,i know the wash with the wiper function would be good but i just want as simple set up as possible, just one wipe no adjustment of speed, how would i wire the delay relay into the wiper switch and motor
thanks Dave
Re: Windscreen wipers
So you need a wash wipe only?

Hello,
Please pm what you exactly need and want. Do you use the Stag switch or the Dolomite one etc.
