New Garage

#1 Post by Mad Mart »

OK, not a Dolly resto but I thought I might bring you along with my new garage build. :D

I haven't done a Sprint resto for a few years now and, as some of you will know, I moved house back in March. Part of the criteria when looking for the new house was to have a decent sized double garage, like the one I already had, or at least space to build one. We eventually found our present house with the garage being slightly (a couple of hundred mil) wider than my old one. When originally built there was only a single garage (the one on the right) with a carport on the left but like a few of the houses around the area, the carport was made into a second garage, albeit not that wide. Planning for the design went through with no problems and planning approval was given at the beginning of July. The new garage will be a double with a pitched roof, an implement store to the rear and a single roller door at the front.

Alun (xvivalve) is the Architect who designed the garage for me. He's done a great job and I hope the builders will do a great job too.

The demolition of the existing garages is due to start this Monday the 23rd.

Looks like hard work but will be worth it in the end, where I live we can't have a garage due to the land layout being on a steep hill so i cheated and rent a workshop about one mile away the bonus being that Mrs D doesn't know how many cars or tools I have ;)

Don't forget to update this in all the excitement, as I love a good garage build thread. I always suffer garage envy but i'm happy to put up with that.
Currently over 35 years worth of fixing 35 boxes.
Hoping to reach 65 years worth of fixing 65 boxes.

Demolition Day - The builders arrived at 8 sharp and just got on with it, despite the heavy rain later on.

The first skip will be arriving tomorrow so that will be us parked on the street for the next six weeks. :(

Roof removed. The first skip arrived today, on time. Ben the builder packed the skip as tidily as possible, these skips aren't cheap. The digger turned up around five ready to demolish the rest of the garage tomorrow.

Never say never! You never know.

So today, the rest of the walls came down, the concrete base was broken up and sent for recycling and the footings were started. The first inspection is due tomorrow by building control.

Yes but I need some attic space to keep my Dolly bits. :D

Not a lot more to see today. All the footings are done and the building control inspector was happy with them. The concrete pour will probably be on Monday now.

It was a nice day today so the builders could crack on, as yesterday was a bit of a washout.

Tony.
Thats the whole idea of a pitched roof with a section of the ceiling on hinges or like a trapped door, so you open the trap door, car on the ramp and as its going up it fits nice into the opening.

Exciting project. I am looking forward to seeing progress. It looks like the builders are doing a great job so far.
I built a garage last year, but ended up having a timber garage, as breeze block and slate roof was prohibitively expensive. I am not 100% happy with it, but I really shouldn't complain - it's very big.
I am impressed that Building Control visit in your part of the world. Here, the builder just takes pictures as he goes along and sends them to Building Control!!
