Roll pins / Scroll pins .

#1 Post by MIG Wielder »

I'm also working on my Sprint distributor and naturally I need to renew the roll pin at the base of the distributor that retains the drive cog. The Parts book indicates the pin is not available separately but a roll pin is a common engineering component so I measured up the hole in the shaft and its 1/8 inch. However one side of the hole in the cog is 1/8 inch; the other is much larger at 5/32 ! So do I need a 5/32 roll pin that compresses down to 1/8 inch on fitting, or do I specify a 1/8 in pin and fit that.
A colleague has also suggested the roll pin should be wire-locked in place in case it comes out. Is this necessary ?
Thanks.

Tony.

'Distributor doctor' will be your friend for sourcing the correct one. can't see how you would wire lock it in, by their nature they should hold themselves in as the are sprung.
Some people are like Slinky's, they serve no real purpose in life but bring a smile to your face when you push them down the stairs.

I have always been able to re-use the old pin.

It's fairly straight forward to wire lock the pin on a 44D4.

Hello All,
Thanks for your helpful comments and notes. I was in Halfords at lunchtime and found they do a box of assorted 90 roll-pins for £8.
There is a mixture of metric / imperial sizes and there are even 3-off Sprint distributor compatible pins. So I now have one that fits and 89 spares !
Onwards and upwards !

Ive knocked a few of these out and they sometimes are already in 2 pieces. Well worth replacing, the oil pump drag weakens them over time.
