That's pretty much the idea!

I'm kinda glad now that I didn't pull the belt cover BEFORE I ordered the belt kit, I might have been tempted to cheapskate it and leave it alone! But most reckon you should replace a 10 year old belt regardless of mileage so i've erred on the side of caution!

Thanks for the tip to remove the Ziebart with petrol. I have loads of it to get off on the underside of my bonnet and wondered if it would do the job.

Be generous with the petrol, soak a rag in it and let it soak in, then do it again after that you rub it a bit with the fuel soaked rag and it will start to dissolve then it'll come off more quickly. You have to think, it'll start coming off soon - and it will! Then buff it a bit with a clean rag and bob's your uncle! It took me about half a day a side to clean up those flitches with all the folds and seams to impede progress (and my missus hated me when I came in cos I stank of petrol) There are a few traces left in the most awkward to reach corners, but since I am painting it over, that really isn't a problem! Good luck with yours!

By the way, i'd love to get hold of a couple of the Ziebart screen stickers to put on my cars, both of which were Ziebart treated from new. I credit the treatment entirely for the fine condition of both shells and the stickers would be nice to publicly acknowledge that! It's almost ironic that the rustproofing far outlasted the advertising! These days, it would be the other way round! Anyone know if Ziebart are still trading, or if someone is doing replicas?

It does indeed, I've just ordered a couple - and explored the website further which has given me a list of a dozen or more other stickers i'd like! Try the vintage race/rally logos for some old favourites, they even do BL and Unipart!

More work done this weekend and last, self isolation is working for me!

The underbonnet area has been painted with my own mix of Vermillion Smoothrite, it doesn't look it in the pix, but the colour is a near pefect match to the untouched original colour on the body plate now affixed to the shell




I've refitted all the underbonnet parts as well as all the metal brake pipes and the servo and master cylinder assembly.







Antiroll bar and new poly tie bar bushes fitted.





N/S eyebrow try fitted.



Last job today was to fit the new rear wheel cylinders and shoes and set up the rear brakes, finally adjusting the handbrake cables to fit. I've also done a preliminary bleed of the system and i'm getting fluid from all 4 bleed screws but no pedal just yet. I haven't given up, BUT I do suspect the master cylinder as it's the only "not new" part of the brake hydraulics. If' it's duff it's no biggie these days, Alun is only a few miles away!

Next weekend's task, bleed the brakes thoroughly, then, if successful, I can move onto finishing off the downpipe fabrication Including installing the secondary oxygen sensor and it's "cheater" and fitting the rest of my semi Sports exhaust, a Rimmers type centre box and cross axle pipe, but with a twin pipe stainless rear box of unknown ancestry I got from Tony (migwelder) at the Oxford show a couple of years ago.

I'm just hoping all this Covid 19 business is sorted by October and they'll let us into Scotland on the RBRR!

Mechanically speaking, I reckon it's not impossible to have it driving around in 3 weeks (even only working on it weekends, I still have paying stuff to do in the week)

But with a full respray including colour change, I kinda doubt it'll be completed in 3 weeks! But then I kinda doubt the lockdown will only last 3 weeks either! My biggest problem COULD be getting it to a painter (or vice versa) If worst comes to worst, i'll fit it all up and go round Britain in 6 different colours!

On that subject, you've used aerosols to good effect James, any recommendations for where to get a decent match? I want to paint out the shuts, door interiors and window openings myself, though i'm getting 2 pack and laquer sprayed on the main exterior surfaces.

If you have a piece of panel the right colour they will mix it and put it in aerosol's for you while you wait, spray pattern is great Very old school customer service, 52miles from Highley (according to the AA)
