Brake master cylinder repair

#1 Post by RichardHyde »

Hi,
When reconditioning my tandem master cylinder, I couldn't shift the front piston even with compressed air from the local tyre fitter.
My only option was to drill a hole in the end of the m/c body and push the piston out with a drill bit. I now have a hole in the end of the m/c body.
Is this beyond repair now, or would it be possible to weld a disc over the hole ?
thanks, Richard.

I think you'd be better off tapping it and using a small set screw and spring washer; I don't think the cast body would take weld particularly well

You'd need a copper washer to seal it! And a pretty hefty thread to take the torque of tightening it.

Not something i'd personally want to risk TBH!
