its alive......excellent news....which colour are you picking for it?
Dolomite 1300,1980`V`reg in british racing brown(russet),3.63 diff with 21t speedo pinion,95%poly`d,HL clocks,standard wheels with SE covers wrapt in 175 70 13,mot`d 19-09-2014,been off the since 1990,(july2017) stainless steel exhaust 3-piece,(xmas2018) wooden mountney steering wheel,(june2020) new monroe shock(radial front,gas-matic rears) with -1" lower`d springs all round.

Actually, none of them! It will be Vermillion (doors are Pimento) simply because that's what the comm tag says!

I'm chuffed to bits with a successful first drive, I was by no means nailing the throttle, but it took off like a scalded cat! And I am over the moon that the trans works correctly, I was extremely worried that I'd have to have the original ecu rebuilt at huge cost rather than just using the cheap second hand one i've fitted. Now it's settled onto it's springs a bit, the ride height looks reasonable too. I've deliberately kept this one close to stock in ride height, wheel size and tyre profile to give a more relaxed ride. It's certainly not SLOW, but the auto and general spec means it's not a racecar, but then, I already have one of those!

It's now safely back in the garage and my Mojo is at full capacity! The next time it emerges, it should be all one colour and have a vinyl roof! If all goes to plan, this should be early July and a few weeks later to be fully fitted up!

Since nobody really wants to see boring pics of me endlessly rubbing down paint, i'll concentrate the next posts on the other interesting things like building in the T1300 bonnet bulge and how I build the console up.

I did the investigations on fancy stereos and have found myself a DOOZY! It was more than twice what I expected to pay, but my upcoming 66th birthday (end of the month) and my everloving family have ganged up to get it for me!

It's a double DIN size touchscreen that accepts every kind of multimedia format you can imagine plus Satnav, reversing camera, bluetooth, voice commanded phone dialling and some other stuff I haven't worked out the purpose of yet! I have, of course, done my homework and the double din WILL fit the console with POSSIBLY just enough space for the leccy window switches too! I can't show pix of it yet as SWMBO has kidnapped it to giftwrap. I have however, kept the fitting cage so I can carry on with the console!

It's somewhat ironic that I have 2 Red cars! I pretty much hate red, mainly for it's propensity to fade if not kept well polished!

Since i'd rather drive than polish, this one will get a good helping of clearcote for a deep and long lasting shine!

When I bought the car, it was in fact Vermillion.

The body, though very rough, was just about do-able with a huge amount of work. At that time I was all set to lose the red and paint it a more me-friendly colour, several choices were mooted, a deep metallic purple, maybe with a biscuit vinyl for contrast, anthracite grey (too modern) and French, Royal or Wedgewood Blue, all from the Triumph palette but all technically too old for this 78 car.

Then the Brown body turned up for the right price, somewhat damaged, but unwelded and Ziebarted from new, it was a no-brainer. So the prime choice went back to Vermillion to avoid, as much as possible, drawing attention to my misdemeanors. I'm sorry but I didn't give a single thought to retaining the Russet!

At least SWMBO likes Vermillion!

My Spitfire is the wrong red... Signal technically too old for a 1977 car. It was originally Flamenco.
When I found out it was a "rare" colour I considered going back to it, but for now it's staying Signal Red.

I don't have a problem with "wrong" colours, especially something as technical as "wrong for the year"! I fancy that if I did, I wouldn't be a modder!

My old GT6 cabrio was also Signal Red, though the 74 Spitfire donor body was Pimento (maybe, it was pretty pink when I got it) The GT6 was Sienna Brown, but not much of that was left! Again I got a Red car, I guess i'm just doomed! That time it was Red because the donor body was Red, Red is a pig to cover with a different colour, it has a nasty habit of "bleeding through" and I couldn't be ar*ed to bare metal the shell inside and out!

I once resprayed a red car white........ You can guess the colour it was a couple of days later. :evil: :evil: I then had to spray it black and then white again..... That worked. I will swear the car was a few inches bigger with all that paint......

As promised, i'm playing with the bonnet and have made faster progress than I thought!

There was a tricky bit at the back where cutting away enough of the inner skin to joddle the bulge section in would have fatally weakened the bonnet so, once more, lateral thinking came into play.

It's just screwed down ATM, but a few holes punched and I can start to weld it into place!

It's not open from the factory, just an aesthetic addition, though the swages may stiffen the otherwise flat panel.

However, bling is not my thing, so it WILL be functional before i'm finished!

Talking of bling, I've drilled the holes to fit my non standard door mirrors!
