Greetings from Colorado. The snow is over, and I'm getting the Sprint ready to go for the season.
First task is to put new tyres on the car. But before I sort that, I want to clean up the wheels. I have found several threads that deal with this subject. Luckily the finish on theft of the wheels is quite good, very smooth, shinny, and generally ready to go.
My question has to do with the backside of the wheel. Mine has a black finish on the backside of the wheel. I don't know if that was factory original, or what the finish actually is (paint, powder coat, etc). Who can help??
The reason I ask is one of the wheels has some large blisters in the black finish which has started to peel off, and the aluminum below has started to pit. Luckily only on the one wheel. What should I do, since the front of the wheel is in good shape? And, what finish do I apply?
I can provide a picture if that will help.
If I have to do any painting or refinishing, I'd like to do it before I have the new tyres mounted.
Any ideas or suggestions would be appreciate.

Re: Polishing Up Sprint Alloys
Hello Harry.
Yes, the back of the wheels would have originally been black, however I'm not sure how this was applied originally or if it was gloss or satin?
However, a good clean up to remove the flaking paint - ideally clean it all off with a fibre disc in a drill or similar, followed by primer and a top coat in a good quality paint of your choice I would think would do the trick.
I've got to do mine soon as they are exactly the same. I may use epoxy mastic black paint on the back and where the tyre sits on the rim. It is a very hard wearing paint, so I hope will reduce the effect of corrosion for a good while.
Kind Regards

Ive had mine powder coated, but if your painting them yourself, once your have rubbed the rims down use etch primer on the wheel first then use epoxy paintMatt Cotton wrote: ↑Wed May 27, 2020 3:30 pm Hello Harry.

Re: Polishing Up Sprint Alloys
Thank you so much for your ideas and suggestions. having never looked at the back of the wheel, and with nothing to compare to, i wasn't sure if it had originally been black.
Since the front side was nicely polished, with nice black inserts, I didn't want or need to do a full refurbishment. I ended up using a wire wheel on a drill and removed all the loose bites. I then used a rattle can of satin finish black to finish them off. I then had a set of Pirelli Cinturato CN36. So far I love them!
Thanks again for your support.
