Have you seen the little devices that Bluetooth to your phone and then send that signal via FM to your radio? Plug it into your cigarette lighter and play the tunes from your phone on any FM radio......

I have mate though it won't help me with the AM radiomobile
I saw an external module for a blaupunkt out there which connects to the DIN plug on those, looked decent..

Thanks Tony. I reckon a bit more fettling and maybe fit the carpet studs under the drivers seat? I’m guessing they originally fitted to the drivers and passengers pieces, or maybe the large back to front piece? Any idea?

Ha! AM, didn’t notice that sorry!! Yes the din adapter plug works well for a connection. I’ve seen those used by the aircooled VW crew on their prized Blaupunkts.

Hi Bish, my mats just lay there, i can't see any studs but the garage it's in is very dark as i am waiting for it to be wired up. The front to back mat goes under the front one if thats what you mean? If you want me to take some pics for you i will with pleasure as my carpets are orginal but a 72 car. I know fresh carpets are a pain sometimes. What is the backing made of?

The carpets have a hessian type woven backing, in this heat we’re having it’s very pliable!
I have four male press stud type fittings riveted to the floor pan, two each side where the pan slopes down to the drivers & passengers footwell. They are in the parts book for post 76 cars so must be an original fitting on later cars like mine. If I fit the female ends, that I have ordered today, to the large front to back piece of carpet and fit the studs together - then lay the footwell carpets on top, it will be a tighter fit I reckon!?

I’ll have a go at the weekend if the fittings arrive in the post. It’s no big deal really but my Vitesse had a similar arrangement of aftermarket carpets fitted by a previous owner, and they moved around a bit too much for my liking. These will fit nicely and stay put when I’ve finished with them!
No problem on the photos but thanks for the offer, I’m in a similar position doing work on the house and everything is upside down again this week, so it’s difficult to get some photos myself to illustrate what I’m on about!

In the original design there are clearance holes in the main floor carpet that go round the studs, then the front well carpets pop over the studs and hold all in place. Or is it the other way round? Memory now playing tricks!

Nothing very much holds the front end of the footwell carpets in, though the O/S one wraps round the steering column which helps a bit.

Thanks Steve. I think you are on the money there. That makes sense to me.

I reckon I will only fit the main carpet with the poppers and fix that as tight as possible, then let the front footwell carpets lie on top. If I start making too many holes I know I’ll make a pigs ear of it! I have thought of double sided sticky Velcro for the front ends of the footwell carpets. I’ll fit them as is first though and see if they keep falling down or not!

Morning Bish, the velcro idea will work but only if you sew it in or have a strong stapler..... The sticky bit is crap and will keep coming off. I can't remember what i used it on but the glue on it was rubbish.

Point taken. Scrap the Velcro idea then....... I’m sure they will be fine without.

Interior is finished. Carpet looks good now everything is back in. My front seats are a bit shabby, so if anyone has a pair in Chestnut brown, and in good condition they want to sell, please get in touch.



I’m just doing those nice finishing up jobs now like tidying the wheel nuts with covers. It always annoys me when the paint is damaged on the wheel nuts. Petty, but for me it ruins the overall look of a refurbished wheel. 17mm is tight on the 11/16 Sprint nuts but they do go on with a bit of heat from the hairdryer. They may pop off yet, we shall see!



Finally bit the bullet and put the side stripes on today. I was convinced I’d make an arse of the job, but I took my time and I’m pleased with the result. They were supplied by the club in 2014 so I thought they may have seen better days but the tapes and sticky stuff were still perfectly preserved by the plastic bag they were packaged in. Well done, and thanks to those at the the club who source and supply excellent quality parts.









Definitely looks better with the stripes in my opinion. Gives the car a better perspective? Dunno if I’ve gone too far forwards with the front wing stripes? I couldn’t find an answer as to where they should start so I went with a couple of inches off the front tip of the wing.

I’ve now started the monster clean up. The car hasn’t been cleaned in a good few years. So, it’s a proper wash, polish, and wax. Autosolve for the pitted chrome and window polish for the glass that’s covered in years of grime. I won’t lie - cleaning is not my favourite job, but the results should be worth it.

Then it’s a case of fitting the carb mounts and a good tune up. Plus try to fix an annoying oil leak from the gearbox / OD area. Then get VYK off of SORN and back on the road..............

Then start another long list of jobs to do no doubt..................
