Sprint Spark Plug Socket

#1 Post by Flyfisherman »

Gang @ TDC

I have misplaced my spark plug socket - can anybody point me in the direction for a new one, especially with the size as there are four different sizes of plugs sockets on Ebay.

I just got one of these, which fits fine:

But I use a locking 3/8ths extension.
Also, I had one of the very long (250mm) magnetic ones that don't need an extension and I thought was perfect for some years till the magnetic ring came out and stayed on the plug down the hole - thank god for long nosed pliers.

The 16v Slant 4 engine is more fun than the 3.5 V8, because you mostly drive it on the upslope of the torque curve.

Factory 1977 TR7 Sprint FHC VVC 697S (Now all of, but still needs putting together)
B&Y 73 Dolomite Sprint UVB 274M (kids!)
1970 Maroon 13/60 Herald Convertable (wife's fun car).

If you haven't the locking extension, this looks like a better long one than what I had:

You need a 14mm spark plug socket and not 16mm :D

14mm is the thread size of the plugs, not the socket size!

I'm struggling to get a photo of the 16mm stamped on the one I used to pull the plugs yesterday, and which fits well. But I just put a dial gauge in the socket and it's 16mm AF.

Check the NKG website for BP6EF. https://www.ngk.com/product.aspx?zpid=9403

Its 16mm hex, 14mm thread.

Well the thread is. But just to make sure everybody gets confused, you can get 14mm thread plugs with different AF sizes.
