Radius arm bushes

#1 Post by Dave1942 »

Is it enough to raise and to support the rear axle when changing the bushes?

The official workshop manual states "Raise the car on the jack and support the body on stands."

I was hoping to keep weight off the bodywork

If the sills are iffy, lift it via an 18inch long piece of 6x2 to spread the load and allow for a stand to go in next to the jack.

Once the axle is hanging then support the axle with the jack under the diff before taking off the arms.

I have cut two lengths of wood, one for each side that I place along the flat part of the sills to spread the load. You can just see in the photo how I did it when I had to replace the trailing arm.

Letting the axle hang greatly improves access to the inner upper bush nuts. I then do one side at a time, it makes controlling the axle a lot easier! Especially as i'm usually alone under there!
