Any idea what this is off?

Any idea what this is off?

#1 Post by GrahamFountain »

I know this is off topic, but I got this cap for the Herald, which if it had fitted that would have fitted the Doly too. But, obviously, it's no where like right. LeMans-R Triumph Spares who sold it don't want it back, so I wondered if anybody with a history of old cars might recognize the fitting? Presumably the filler tube has two bits that stick in and, from looking at the space left by the lock bar, they are only about 3/16 to 1/4" wide at most.

They are of it locked - the bar above the left indent pulls in to unlock.

The 16v Slant 4 engine is more fun than the 3.5 V8, because you mostly drive it on the upslope of the torque curve.

No picture of the top but it looks like a BMC WASO brand Pentagon petrol cap to me.

Edit: Thinking about it, they were on Volvo's as well... You're going to have a job identifying the car range it fitted by picture, they all look the same!
Current fleet: '75 Sprint, '73 1850, Daihatsu Fourtrak, Honda CG125, Yamaha Fazer 600, Shetland 570 (yes it's a boat!)

Past fleet: Triumph 2000, Lancia Beta Coupe, BL Mini Clubman, Austin Metro, Vauxhall Cavalier MK1 & MK2, Renault 18 D, Rover 216 GSI, Honda Accord (most expensive car purchase, hated, made out of magnetic metal as only car I've ever been crashed into...4 times), BMW 318, Golf GTi MK3 16v x 3

Yep, it says WASO on the flap. Never thought of rollers [pun].

I realised after I posted I was probably stating the obvious by saying it was a WASO. My Mini Clubman had one just like that, but hey, that was 34 years ago, "just like that" could mean anything!

Don't look like Mini, MGB, Spridget, Austin/Morris, or any of the Volvos I can find.

Don't seem to be. I think the pentagonal shape is coincidence.
