May be a stupid question. I have a Unipart workshop manual and it says a Dolomite should have 1/16in toe in and:
"Measure the distance between the inner rims of the front wheels"
I thought toe was measured at the tyre radius (as that's what actually matters). Am I wrong or is the manual wrong?..

Re: Wheel Alignment
The manual is right, tyre bulge upsets accurate measurement.
Actually I always go for dead parallel, the 1/16" figure is better for crossply tyres.

Re: Wheel Alignment
Ok - thanks. I'm constructing an elaborate contraption with string and some angle to measure it - thought that might be a fun idea. How wrong I was lol.

2 short planks of wood, or better, bits of angle iron sat on bricks. Plus a tape measure. Does it for me.

Re: Wheel Alignment
It wouldn’t be hard to make something like this up.
We had a simple version of this when racing.
Autocross
Mini Stocks.
Rookie Rods.
Stock Cars.
Only when we started going upmarket racing we upgraded to Laser Alignment.
We always spun the wheels to make sure they where straight.
And went off the rim edge.
Never on the tyre.

Another thumbs-up for the Trakrite gauge. I've used one for years on many different cars. Dead easy and no measurement required.
