Missing Images

The images in my forum signature don't show up anymore, smilies do. Images are turned on in my preferences. Any ideas?

The image is still there on your website but I note that your website is "not secure" i.e. it is http:// and not https://

Not sure if this has always been the case or not. I do know that a lot of forum software has gradually changed to the point where it will not display content from links to "unsecure" websites.

So I think either:
a) your domain has "lost" its SSL certificate so is no longer secure, or
b) the forum software used to allow unsecure links but now requires all links to be to secure sites, i.e. have a valid SSL certificate.

I had a similar issue displaying images on the Standard Motor Club website sometime ago. In the end I had to get an SSL certificate for my domain name. This gives you https:// and keeps browsers and forum software "happy" !

Can't remember the cost and I did it through my hosting company - it won't have been mega expensive 'cos I wouldn't have done it.

Might not be the problem but as the link is correct and does work when pasted directly into a browser address bar, I suspect it could be.

Has the forum software been updated recently?

Thanks Roger, I've think you've hit the nail on the head. My website has never had an SSL certificate so I think 'b' applies here. Unfortunately an SSL certificate would cost me £25 per year with my present hosting company.

Edit: I can't see a way to upload the image via the forum in the signatures section.

Not visible on my laptop - Windows 10 & Chrome. Have cleared cache etc. still not visible!

Interesting. I just tried viewing the page in Chrome and the images don't appear, but I can see them on both Firefox and Opera. Windows 10.

I've just tried it using MS Edge and it's fine. Must be a Chrome thing?

Just checked on the same laptop and I can see the images in Firefox and Edge but not in Chrome - so obviously a Google Chrome issue.

OK it is a Chrome "feature". By default latest updated versions of Chrome will block mixed content. by "mixed" it means "insecure links" on a "secure" site. So The forum address is https://forum.triumphdolomite.co.uk - note the "https" showing it is "secure". The image link is to an "http" site - which is regarded as "insecure" !

You can allow mixed content by clicking on the padlock symbol in front of the domain name in the address bar, click on site settings, sc roll down and fourth from bottom of the list is a setting called "insecure content" - change that to allow and your pictures magically reappear!

I just tried that but was doing it for my website. doh! thanks again Roger.

I just need to redo my website now as the flash doesn't work anymore now that they have discontinued it. God knows how I'm going to do that, it's been years since I designed it and I don't have Dreamweaver any more.
