Not expensive when you see the prices people are willing to pay for the so called Fast Ford's with zero provenance.

I wonder what it is like around town, look pretty sharp in a Tesco's car park. All those experts asking if it is a proper one...

Re: Group 1 ex works Sprint for sale...
I'm pretty sure this car (which has an excellent provenance and undoubtedly IS the "real thing") has NEVER in it's life been road registered in any country. So driving it down to Tescos isn't really an option! I've driven a couple of street legal close replicas (in terms of engine power, cam, carb setup etc) and they are a proper handful, with a throttle like an on/off switch, no power to speak of under about 4k revs, won't idle under 1500rpm, choke up and foul the plugs at the first hint of traffic and a clutch so hard and fierce you wish for an autobox! Get it on a track and probably even Clarkson would approve! But a car prepared for track in this fashion would be a tiring and tiresome disappointment on the road!

Oh well, it was just a thought. I will stick to my 1500HL auto and have an easy time.

When new, it actually was registered on a British (Coventry) plate: NRW 601M, probably to evade taxes on the competition conversion?

A couple of years ago I spoke to Julien Vernaeve, the Belgium driver and first owner of this very special Dolomite who shared some info. Wish I had some spare cash in my pocket now…

Re: Group 1 ex works Sprint for sale...
No, but it IS one of the 4 "Butch Racing" Sprints shown in a period b/w pic lower down in that thread. The car being restored currently is also one of the same 4 cars but a different one! I'm pretty sure all 4 cars survive today, mainly because they were kept and stored together for many years. It's only within the last 10 years or so that the set was separated and sold. Though I believe not all are still in their original shells due to racing accidents. And the paintjobs were changed several times in the car's lives.Awaiting Repair wrote: ↑Wed Jan 20, 2021 7:29 pm Is this the same car?
