Ignition switch repair.

#1 Post by VanIsleSprint »

I have an intermittent problem with my ignition switch in the start position.
I have a new starter (gear drive) and a relay between the starter and switch.
The white red lead from the switch id used to operate the relay. Has anyone
had any success repairing the switch.

This thread tells you how to do it. Though I would check your earths before starting, in the past I have found starting problems have been caused by nothing more than a corroded earth, which could be fixed in 5 minutes with a bit of sandpaper.

I've totally evaded this problem by fitting a push button start. Just an ignition feed to the button and a wire to the relay. It's more of a "lifestyle choice" than one driven by functionality, I just love to fire up my motor by pushing a big black button like on the Spitfire's Merlin! In moments of extreme whimsy I even shout "CONTACT!"

But you could also use it to bypass a malfunctioning ignition switch! I've not had much luck dismantling the switch, but they sometimes respond to a dose of "electrolube" or similar product.
