Quickrack.

#1 Post by GlenM »

Does anyone know of a supplier (apart from Rimmers) of high ratio steering racks?

Yes, I can get them made via the Club supplier, but I don't have any core units at the moment which are serviceable without needing new rack bars made...

Alun,

I have got a 40,000 mile one on my car. Would it be worth me sending it to you to see what the suppliers think of of it's condition. The car is in pieces and I have a spare one I can fit to keep it moveable in the garage.

That would be a good idea, yes. I'll have to get them to quote for a quick rack pinion which would be on top of the usual price.

Yes please, with the number of rejections needing new rack bars I get from the reconditioners (which I keep for when there's no other option left) I only have one in the core pile at the moment and none reconditioned.

Hi Alun,
Thinking about replacing to quickrack too, so interested in the quote.
Current rack seems in reasonable condition, some play in inner ball joint noticed during MOT. Have another one lying here, used but not by me: no idea of the state. Can send them both to the UK? How long will it take to transform ratio?

How long will they take is a moot point at the moment as their manual rack expert has been isolating a lot this last 12 months due to underlying health conditions and they've had to close a couple of times due to positive test results; also, their factory isn't that local to me so I generally call when in their area rather than making special trips. I understand the boss himself built the last two racks I had done!

When I have racks in hand and know quantities, I can talk to them about timescales ...

I'll try to tie them down on costs for the quick rack pinions being fitted.

Alun,

Mine is now off the car and in a box, ready to go in the post to you this weekend. No hurry at all for it, as I have a spare on the car and many, many other things to get on with for now.
