1850/ sprint starters
whats the difference between an 1850 and sprint starter motor?

Re: 1850/ sprint starters
Visually, the Sprint one has a bigger fixing flange with three mounting holes rather than two. There are two types of 1850 starter, early and late, with the only difference being the location of the solenoid relative to the axis of the motor; I've never worked out why the change was necessary, and they are cross compatible.
The Sprint motor is slightly more powerful.

Thank Alun, I thought that was the case.
interested to notice that both 1850s I have have thee mounting holes on the bell housing but one car has the two bolt starter and the other has the three hole starter.
