Thought it was about time i got my hand brake working on my rear disc brakes, been putting it off as theres a lot of work involved
Had to take the seats out carpet out to get to the handbrake, ( was changing the colour any way ) from brown to black, took the hand brake out of the car to replace the rubber gaitor under the car, also changed the gaitor inside the car, what a pain that was,the plastic grip, had pour hot water on it to get the grip off just to change the gaitor

Re: Handbrake gaiter
Hi Dave
Luckily with my rear discs I was able to re-use my original cable with my new calipers, but I don't have my adjustment left!
I was supprise at the price of new hand brake cables!
Regards
Barry

Good surprise or bad surprise? the last new Dolomite handbrake cable I bought (on ebay auction) was £8 incl carriage IIRC.
They're not a frequent flyer IME, AFAIK, all my Dolomites are still running on the original cables, the one I bought when building the Carledo years ago (because I mistakenly thought Sprint was different to other models) is still sitting on a shelf somewhere!

Hi Steve
Bad surprise, as they were £20 odd pounds each, maybe I am just being tight!

Re: Handbrake gaiter
Well bearing in mind that the one I bought was NOS rather than brand new, on auction rather than buy-it-now and moreover was a good 10 years ago, I don't think £20 a pop is too bad.
I don't know why, I understand inflation happens and that as bits get rarer, the price goes up, but i'm always a little shocked at how much stuff costs! Probably because I still remember what the same bits cost 50 years ago and somewhere in my mind, 50 years and last week are the same time!
By the same token, my first Dolomite, a 75 1850, cost me £15, running and driving fine, with a bit of tax and a short MOT failure! That was around 1989 or 90. We'll never see THOSE days again either!
