The Waxstat HS4s on my SE are causing me endless issues: rarely in balance, generally lumpy and frustrating.
It's been a long time since I last swapped around engines in our cars: can anyone confirm for me that the single SU and matching manifold are a direct swap with my twins? I know it'd make marginally less power/torque, but none of my Toledos have ever given me fueling issues, so am looking for a fit and forget solution.
Thanks.

(and when tested back in the 90s, there is naff all difference, maybe 2-3bhp in a proper trial)
Have you tried the 2p waxstat removal? simple and often cures many ills.

Thanks, Clive.
Could you remind me about the 2p thing? Rings a bell but can't recall the details. Thanks.

Odds are the problem you are blaming on the twin carb setup is really down to worn components on the carbs or an airleak from something like a split breather hose.
One thing I would suggest, if you don't already have one, is buying an airflow meter. It makes balancing carbs far easier and will be more accurate than doing it by ear.
