Diagnosis/symptoms of Sprint auto inhibitor switch failure

Hello all.

Can anyone enlighten me as to what you would expect if the inhibitor switch had failed on an automatic?

A friend has asked me this question as he has an auto Sprint which was running fine until recently. Despite changing points, condenser and various checks it will crank, but not fire.

My response was "is it the inhibitor switch?" however I then wondered if this prevents the cranking also?

Luckily I haven't yet experienced this with my own auto!

Any pointers or advice that I can pass on much appreciated. I'm sure I've read on here somewhere the art of bypassing the switch for fault finding.

The inhibitor switch only stops it cranking in R,D,2,1. It should crank in P & N only. If it cranks it won't be the inhibitor switch causing the non-start.

Don't bypass it.

Does the Sprint have a ballast resistor Matt? Usual culprit.
