There's some older threads around I know.. Just wondering if anything ever came of this, would be wonderful to learn POK79R somehow survived..

According to the UK DVLA it is currently taxed until September 2020 so I guess it is still running in the UK.

It's out on a few classic runs every year

I believe that there is some debate as to weather this is the 'original' car or if someone has been able to obtain the original details front the DVLA (not difficult if you know how!) and clone a white Sprint.

Hard to tell from circa 18000KMs away but I truly hope it is..

I think it was Alun who saw this car in a scrap yard years ago then it magically reappeared back on the road

I saw it in a small farm yard in Charlton Village near Shepperton Studios parked up with an SD1 and a few other cars round about 1989/90, it was 'The Professionals' researcher who owns/owned most of the capris who traced its later demise to a scrap yard in Reading.

Well it's ghost is still haunting car shows in the UK. Or perhaps it would be kinder to call it a "Tribute".
It's impossible to say, from this distance, just how much of the original POK exists in the car currently wearing that plate. I refuse to speculate in a public arena as I don't want to get anyone in trouble! I know of more than a couple of landmark/prototype/famous cars "restored" from a handful of parts, or a rotted out shell, how legitimate some of these are is debatable, but at least they exist rather than being lost forever!
As i've often said, identity on a Triumph is a matter of opinion and the opinion that counts most, is that of the guy with the V5 (logbook/reggo/pinkslip) in his hand!

We could start a debate on the ethics of re-shelling, its one I have myself got mixed feelings about. My current position (which I reserve the right to change!) Is the shell is the car. Whilst I understand why it's an attractive option in my opinion using a shell from another car to "restore" a more valuable one is in reality heavily modifying the donor car. The conundrum for all of us is due to the interchangeability of our car's shells, nobody would ever know. Except the person who did it. In my case my car is my first, now incredibly rusty the easy option would be to find a good used shell. My view is that then it would no longer be "my" car. We should also consider that all our cars are deserving of preservation, not just Sprints.
That said I would bite anybodies arm off if they offered me a NOS shell, that's an entirely different proposition.

You raise a good point, however, what if you were able to buy a brand new shell from the manufacturer? Rimmer's have stock of MGF shells for example.My view is that then it would no longer be "my" car
Back to POK, any new owner can check with the DVLA about the history of a plate/owners, it may have been the case that the original car was scrapped and the plate ended up as a cherished number, which can happen. I noticed a plate from a MK3 golf that I had (now scrapped) come up on the DVLA cherished numbers site. And yes, it was non transferable when on the Golf!
