Stud Extractor

I'm looking to buy a stud extractor/installer. Can anyone advise on which type to get? I usually use the old two nut method but wanted something to speed things up a bit. It's not necessarily for broken studs, just a quicker way of removing/replacing any stud.

...but I thought they would probably chew up the stud? OK for broken studs though.

I have both types; the concentric roller type are best, but if the stud has any resistance to being removed, they each can flatten the threads. If I have any aspiration to re-use the studs I'll double nut them.

The cam type needs space to operate and can be awkward on a sprint head as the cam bearing cap bolt heads are in the way of its locus.

Arrived today and I immediately used them on a couple of O/Ds I'm rebuilding for a club member. I wish I'd got a set years ago. Something else I should have bought years ago arrived today as well, a cordless ratchet.

I just bought a cheap cordless 3/8 drive ratchet as well off ebay.

I went to see Dan Brown at the weekend to get the clutch changed on MSO, just getting all the tunnel bolts out is worth it alone, great bit of kit.

I didn't know AC Delco made power tools Mart?

They made some good batteries back in the day. I remember my Dad's old 1990's Vauxhall having a Delco 'freedom' battery and it was never replaced in the 10+ years Dad kept the car.

Ive got a cordless rachet as well not used it yet,also have 1/2 drive 24volt impact gun good for undoing rusted nuts and bolts

I've just been stripping down another Sprint engine and was using the new cordless ratchet. Why oh why have I waited this long to get one, especially on all those sump bolts.

Hi Mart, apart from the obvious not needing an airline or compressor whats the benefit of having a codeless one?

It wasn't necessarily the "cordless" part, just having a power ratchet at all has made things easier/quicker.

I would say the cordless was ones are warmer Air tools get damned cold in this weather. or am i getting soft in my old age.....
