Handbrake / MOT

#1 Post by RichardHyde »

Hi everyone,
Getting the car ready for an MOT. The handbrake ‘rubbers’ are perished or split. Will the car fail the MOT for this ?
Thanks, Richard

I think you will probably get away with it, as long as the handbrake actually works.

If it does fail you have 10 days to change the gaiters, so you aren't loosing much by taking the chance and putting it in for a test.

No. It won't or shouldn't fail on those.
Only if the cables are frayed or insecure.

May be I’ll cut them off and hope the inspector doesn’t realise that they’re missing ?!

They are not an item checked on the MOT.
Some people are like Slinky's, they serve no real purpose in life but bring a smile to your face when you push them down the stairs.

Cover them in copper slip, the tester won't want that on him Richard. Not a fail anyway.
