Gear lever buzz and vibration

#1 Post by davidmorr »

1975 Dolomite 1850 manual, no overdrive.

For some time, there has been a buzz in the gear lever when the RPM gets above about 2500. It also vibrates while this is happening. It happens in all gears. If I push the lever to the side, it sometimes suppresses the buzz but not always.

Is this likely to be a gearbox internals problem? :-( Or is there something in the gear lever mechanism that might be loose/need replacing?

It is the newer type of gear lever mechanism with the ball at the bottom of the lever rather than the transverse pin.

You might be missing the anti rattle plunger part 22G2286 and its associated spring as they often come out and get lost when the gear stick is taken out.

What Richard said ^^^^^!

You could also try checking the gearbox mount.
