1975 Dolomite 1850
I do not usually drive the car at night, but have been lately. I have noticed that the dash lights and the parking lights sometimes flash on as I turn the key on or off. Am I right in guessing that the ignition switch has failed? Is it fixable or do I look for a replacement?

Do you have normal bulbs or led?

Re: Lights flash when ignition switch turned
And the wiring is all original without repairs or relays added etc? No modern radio fitted?
The lights only flash once when ignition is turned on or do these lights stay on?
These are seperate circuits and nowhere these can be connected. The wires do share a column connector I believe but that wouldn't cause flashing.
The only thing I can think off is that an earth of the dash panel is missing somewhere. An ignition feed somewhere is earthed by a gauge bulb. The gaugebulbs are connected directly to the sidelights.
When all the wiring is original and not damaged I would try taking out the bulbs of the gauge illumination and have someone look if your sidelights still flash. If not put in one by one a bulb again, fit in the gauge and you will find the causing one.
When it still does, the sidelights flashing, disconnect the three dash connectors and see if the side lights still flash. If not check the dash wiring carfully on damage and all connectors fitted properly and on the correct tabs.
When it still does, you can take out the terminal in the lower column connector. In this case it is the red wire you have to remove. Nothing starts ticking. If it still does you ruled out all the possible physical contact possibilities in the harness.
When it still does, it's a short somewhere, a wrong connected part, a bodge repair you aren't aware off etc.
Good luck.
