Hello forum members. I have just rejoined after an abscence and need your help.
In removing the rear axle from my 1980 Dolomite 1500HL I have snapped the threaded end of one of the tie bars. Ideally I'd just buy a new one but they don't seem to be available??
I see Rimmers list a recon item, though they don't currently have stock.
Is there a standard repair used for this item as I imagine the thread snapping off is the principal mode of failure for this item. I was thinking of the possibility of putting it in a lathe to tidy up the stub of the thread back to the shoulder and then drill and tap in order to fit a 7/16 UNF stud, that is half in the new hole and half out to take the nut. Has that been done sucsessfully?
Thanks
Zeus

This is quite a common problem, particularly where cars have been fully poly bushed at the rear.
I have a few spare used tie rods here; a replacement would be better than an attempt at repair in my opinion.
