Sprint water pump rebuild questions

#1 Post by Howard81 »

Good afternoon :D

It’s water pump rebuild time on the Sprint, but despite reading up on the topic I can’t seem to fathom out why I can’t seem to reassemble mine without the water thrower disc rattling. I think it may have actually been rattling before which I always put down to the timing chain…

In order, I have the oil thrower disc, bearing (pressed in to brass cage), circlip, oil seal, water thrower, top seal.

Am I doing something wrong, or do I have an odd assortment of parts? I don’t know any history of the pump as I’ve never had to rebuild it since buying the car in 2008. So it’s done well!

Thanks in advance :D

The water thrower should be a tight fit on the shaft, I would say yours is damaged.

Many thanks Tony, it looks fine to my eyes but if it’s been rattling around then it’s likely enlarged the hole somewhat.

Kind regards,

Howard
