DO you know what the minimum brake disc thickness is?

I have been looking through the various Triumph dolomite documents that I have in an attempt to find out what the minimum thickness is but I could not find this detail. In the end I did find a disc which had the information embossed on it and the figure is 0.23 inches. i have since found another set which is marked 0.32inch)

The Haynes manual does state that the run out must not exceed 0.006 inch and that if necessary , remove the disc and check for dirt on the mating faces. Should these be clean reposition the disc on the hub.

The problem I had in the past, when I purchased a set of discs was the fact that the thickness of the disc varied and this caused the brake pedal to pulse. I took them off and found a old set that were not down to the limit. I still need to get the new set skimmed.

0.23, just under 1/4", or around 6mm, sounds ridiculously thin to me! Running 140+ bhp cars as I do, i'm intensely aware of the Dolomite brakes fade problem, which can only be exacerbated by reducing the disc thickness to the bare minimum.

However, i'm aware that you are only running 1500s which don't put such high demands on the brakes, so, from that point of view, you're probably safe enough.

With that in mind, I have a few pairs of standard discs dotted around here which I have removed from cars to fit Trackerjack conversions to. Some of these, though having a degree of surface rust from my less than careful storage, (they've been indoors, but not greased or wrapped) appear to be nearly new in terms of thickness and finish. I'll probably only bin then eventually, since I definitely WON'T be using them, but they might do you a turn........

Hi Steve.
Having read your comments I went and looked as the rest of the brake discs that I have kept and one set does state minimum thickness is 8.3mm which is about 3.2inches. That does sound a bit better. I was just surprised that it was not given in any of the documentation and only a few of the disc that I have seen have got a figure marked on them.

If you are going to the TDC rally on the 4th September I would assume a number of members would be happy to purchase some of your partially used discs as the new disc are over £60 each and the quality is poor.
