Dial gauge end float

Just want to check I am doing this right, using a dial gauge to measure the crank end float on a sprint engine. I have a metric gauge which is marked 10mm, which I assume is the maximum travel and 0.01mm, which I think is travel for each small graduation on the outer dial.

So with crowbar in crank I am getting readings of 14-15 small graduations on the outer face. Now am I right in thinking this corresponds to 0.14-0.15mm of end float, which puts me inside the acceptable tolerances for the crank?

Yes you are correct. The small graduations are 0.01mm. When you reach the 10, that is 0.10mm. For each complete revolution it is 1.00mm. The spec for the Sprint/1850 crankshaft end float is 0.07mm. - 0.28mm. so you are well within the tolerance.
Sprintless for the first time in 35+ years. :boggle2: ... Still Sprintless.

Thanks for that, I am always a bit warry of such things because it would be a nightmare if I got it wrong and had to take the lot apart again.
