Jackshaft forward/backward play

#1 Post by cleverusername »

How much end play should there be in the jackshaft? I have just fitted mine and can definitely feel a bit movement back/forwards. Now as far as I can tell this is controlled by the keeper plate and since I have two jackshafts it is possible I have put the wrong keeper plate on. Are they interchangeable?

If I have too much float, is it acceptable to shim the jackshaft endplate?

The keeper plate thickness controls the end float so is it worn, or is the jackshaft slot worn?
I just chose the best, least worn, keeper plate in my spares box when I built the last engine.

Pretty sure I have read somewhere about too much axial thrust on the jackshaft caused by the oil pump running too high a pressure and inducing wear.

I have switched to other jackshaft and there is much less movement. In theory I suppose I could have shimmed up the keep plate to solve the problem but I do have a spare shaft to play with.
