can anybody tell me why several sellers list Dolomite Shocks, but they are all without spring /coil platforms?
at least one of below listings show some split-collars which may indiacte that they are for fixing a spring-platform.....but i dont undestand the principle.

Re: several shocks, but all without spring-platforms
There are parts missing with all of those listings; the first one shows split collets but the associated spring pans are missing. Others have both the split collets and spring pans missing.
The split collets locate in the groove on the body of the shock absorber and are then held in place by the shaped spring pan which half laps over them which they then in turn support.
I have some spare spring pans in my lock up, but from memory they're for rears.

Re: several shocks, but all without spring-platforms
I was goimg to buy some NOS shocks at Stoneleigh a few years ago. The chap had loads opf stuff all NOS. He wasn't happy about me checking teh contents of the boxes. 4 different 1/2 collets, though the seat pans seemed correct. So there was no way of using the shocks. He seemed disappointed that I didn't want to buy them....
Another seller somewhere else suggested I used the pans and collets off my old shocks. He was incredulous that I had shocks with welded pans. Ho hum. Some real chancers out there.

If you do manage to get collets supplied, you also need to be very careful that they are the correct ones. These are an issue I had with my installation, the were slightly the wrong size and did not fit well into the shock body. They were dangerous. They were only slightly wrong.
I ended up getting some shocks with welded plates from Fitchetts.

i thought it slike that....but what is the issue behind the collets? those came in certain years as standard from Triumph? or do those collet-equipped dampers are always aftermarket? and why some manufactures have chosen those collet-type-fixing?

Re: several shocks, but all without spring-platforms
I've only ever seen aftermarket units with split collets and separate spring pans.
They make for easier manufacture and smaller packaging
