Sprint 50th Anniversary Dolly mixture- Missing numbers

#1 Post by tangocharlie1 »

Great issue of the recent club mag, loved the personal photos of the launch, but one thing i did notice was that some of the VA Chassis numbers are missing from the list of Sprints that attended. Anyone have any theories of what happened to VA11, VA12 AND VA13 ?

I have been in touch with Martin Cox this morning. He was just off on holiday but says he will make enquiries about these cars upon his return and let me know.

I now believe i have solved this mystery after a day at Gaydon Archive reading room today.
The following information was discovered well hidden in the factory records.

The following is quoted from an entry dated 22nd January 1973 on factory microfiche records.

"Please note commission numbers VA11, 12, 13 (Swift) have been allocated to project development (Eng Div).

It is evident that these chassis numbers do not appear in the factory build records (or at least i couldn't find them) and i am presuming never registered. So the next puzzle is what would have to these 3 Sprints ?
