commission plate
Got a couple of questions about commission plates
1/ on the Sprint commission plate should it say Dolomite Sprint ? ( early car ) or is that a Rimmers thing
2/ The two oblong plates one is painted the other is left silver ( is that correct ) what are the numbers on those plates mean ?
Thanks Dave

Re: commission plate
Some say Dolomite Sprint, some don't; there's no hard and fast rule as to what cars were fitted with each from my experience as I've seen both early and late with both. Pre-'76 cars do have the weight in LBS whereas afterwards they went to Kg. Mike barker had some early ones made, the ones I had made are in Kg and don't say Dolomite Sprint

Re: commission plate
Mike seems to have gone to ground; all of his posts have been removed. It's almost as if he wanted a clean break after selling his car.
Do you mean the body number plate? A string of numbers with a two letter suffix? It shouldn't be oblong, it should have radiuses at each end.

Re: commission plate
I believe new to this is referring to the two tags above the commission plate.

This was how they were on my Toledo when it was taken apart in the 90s, so yes, one painted, one not.
The numbers aren't recorded on my Heritage certificate, they have been discussed here previously: https://forum.triumphdolomite.co.uk/vie ... 52#p319043

Re: commission plate
After a bit of research, it seems that this is the correct one for early Sprints:

The nearest I've been able to find on eBay is this:

It looks right apart from the bottom line that is black on silver, which seems to have more in it. But then, maybe that original one is damaged there too.
It still seems odd to me that the correct plate says British Leyland UK not British Leyland Motor Corporation, as the company name only changed from BLMC to BL UK in 1975; especially as it seems the BLMC ones (also on eBay) were used on other Dolomites at the same time. However, it does seem to be correct. I did ask the BMM about it, but they never got back to me.

The 16v Slant 4 engine is more fun than the 3.5 V8, because you mostly drive it on the upslope of the torque curve.

Re: commission plate
My 1850HL never had a silver plate (although my TR6 does) it does have a body colour plate as per pic above. As I understand it, there's no connection between body number and commission number?

Re: commission plate
Both my Sprint and Toledo have the painted body plate and the silver one. The painted one is the number applied to the SHELL before it leaves production for the assembly hall. Since, at this point, there are only 2 different shells (2 headlight and 4 headlight) there is nothing much to be learned from this number, it's merely a production number of the shell, The number bears no relationship to the comm number as it's been applied to every 4 light (or 2 light) shell regardless of destination model, even the letter code is misleading as there is no distinct "Sprint", "1850HL" or 1500HL" code at this point, my Sprint shell carries a WF body plate code which would normally be an 1850 indicator, but it's a pukka Sprint one.
Dunno at all what the other (unpainted) plate is for.
Some Heritage certificates include a record of the body number, some don't (I have one of each) But, in any case, you won't find it recorded anywhere else!
