Boot lid seal

Has anyone purchased and fitted a boot lid seal? If so was it OK and where did your purchase it from?

I understand from a friend who fitted a seal from Rimmer about a year ago, that it was either too large or too hard because the boot lid would not close after fitment.

I have two in stock and cannot remember when or where I purchased them except that it would have been over a year ago.

One is similar size to one fitted to our other Dolomite, but feels harder. The second is larger but softer, but doesn't fit the boot profile as well.

Any experience would be appreciated.

I fitted the rimmers one a few years back.

It's been fine, I would say it now acts like the original would have in that you need to give the boot lid a good old shove after closing.

Also from Rimmers. Took 2 or 3 firmish slams to close; but I adjusted the lower latch plate a few mm, and done. Now does not leak - objective achieved!

Oddly my Rimmers one about... I dunno.. 5 years ago seemed too thin - the boot lid rattles unless I have it sat so low it's no longer flush with the body. Weird!

Guys.

I just ordered a Dolomite boot trim from East Kent Trim which requires sticking / adhesive.

Are there different types of trim as my existing one sits over the lip of the boot under the boot lid.

Can anyone suggest which seal is best as the adhesive option looks more difficult.

The sort glued to the lid is original, the one that sits on the body lip is NOT!

There are pro's and cons to both, the original sorts go soft and squishy and don't seal and the glue fails over time leading to bits of it falling out of place. OTOH the lip seal often seems to be loose in some spots and too tight in others leading to a bad seal that inevitably leaks and also the boot is hard to close at the same time. You pays your money and takes your choice!

My personal taste runs to the original design in good condition used form, WHEN I can find one! I was looking through an extrusion catalogue the other day at Cliff's place and there were a couple of possibilities available by the meter but I didn't have a bit of original stuff with me at the time to match the profile exactly.

Hi Paul, I recently bought a boot seal from both rimmers and Witors and in my opinion they are both the same profile and both rubbish - just to take any chance out of fitting it incorrectly I asked Steve Carledo to fit it and it takes a lot of pressure to get the boot lid to shut, which shuts perfectly with no seal, so the boot lid etc. is not out of alignment!

Unless we can find a similar profile that is not quite so thick, I can't see any other options....

Just to let you know that I purchased a seal from Robsport. Its way to thick and sure the bootlid would not close if I fitted it. So that has been returned.
Out of desperation and against my better judgement, I purchased a second from Rimmer.
Much to my surprise, it is thinner than the Robsport seal and apperas to be the same as those I have previously fitted to our other Sprints.
So I will be using that.
I'll let you know how it goes.

Hi Paul - I might send my Rimmer's one back then and ask them to send me a replacement if they are now thinner than previously supplied!

The Stag bootlid seal is not correct for the Dolomite.

Nothing like the original in fit or shape. But if it works.........

Toledo boot seal is LONGER than Dolomite because the bootlid goes down to bumper level instead of finishing above the tail light panel. So even though the tail is 6" shorter, the seal strip is longer!
