Idiots guide to setting up the handbrake

Hi all,
Does anybody have any tips for setting up the handbrake ?

1) Remove the wheels and brake drums. Ensure the H plates are fitted in the handbrake (rearmost) shoes and that the cylinders slide in the backplate.

2) Grind off any wear lips on the edge faces of the drums.

3) Disconnect the cables from the actuating links.

4) Wind up the self adjusters manually till the drum can only just be slipped into place over the shoes, keep working the actuating link after test fitting the drum to keep the shoes centralized. You'll know it's right when the actuating link only moves the tiniest amount before the drum locks.

5) Adjust and refit the cables to the actuating links and refit the wheels.

Job done!
