Mystery 1850 (?) part

Anybody know what this is please ?

It is made of black ABS plastic . It has no maker's name or other ident; on it.

I think it is an 1850 Lumenition-style electronic chopper for their electronic ignition.
Unlike the current model this version appears to be made in 2 parts so it can be fitted without removing the distributor. It fits below the rotor arm on longer screws I reckon.
But ... it has 3 identical slots spaced at 90 degrees and the 4th one is much wider as if it has to know where pot 1 is.
Which makes me think it is not Lumenition but from a competitor brand.

Anybody know which one please ? There were a lot of them about in the 1970s.

Lumenition optronic choppers have always looked the same right from the first ones. I've been using them since their introduction circa 1976 as I worked at a Lucas agent who had exclusive rights when it was launched and for some years afterwards. Even then they were pricey, around a weeks wages for a kit, but I got a massive 50% staff discount!

So it's NOT Lumenition, but I agree it will serve a similar purpose, I can't think of any other use! but i've no idea of it's ancestry, never seen one like it!

I'd say that larger slot is not deliberate, but broken away!

No homework needed.
It is Piranha or Newtronic - Newtronic took over Piranha so the two are essentially the same.




Here it is, doing its thing on my 1850.
Unfortunately the extra wide slot is a defect, all the slots whould be the same width, so its going to be of limited use to anyone.
