Dolomite Panel 817448 Required

#1 Post by David Embery »

Hi

I am restoring a 1972 Dolomite 1850.

Does anyone have, or know of where I can get my hands on, a panel that I need? As you can see from the picture, now that the under seal and other ‘stuff’ has been removed from the underneath of the body, there is a rather worrying array of Pop-Rivets that have come to light!

Part No. 817448 = Bracket mounting rear track control arm to the body from the rear axle on the N/S/R suspension.

I’ve tried all the usual places such as Rimmer Brothers etc. It’s clear that I now need to cast my net a bit further as the panel I need is proving a bit problematic to track down.

If anyone can help, I would be most grateful to hear from them.

Cheers

The only company I know who MIGHT have such a thing is Fitchetts.

The repair section that's there looks like a hefty bit of steel, it's only the attachment method that leaves something wanting! Were it me, I'd just weld it up properly and call it good enough! I've weld repaired this bit before myself without any problems later from MOT or breakage.

Or you might be able to liberate one from a scrap car, whilst rot here DOES happen, it's not THAT common!

Cheers Steve.

As ever, your advice is most welcome and I’ll certainly go that way should it prove that I am not be able to get the panel. This does seem like the conclusion I’ll arrive at as the panel would appear to be rather rare to say the least.

I was at Fitchett’s today and Tony advised they don’t have it in their stock.

Cheers. :D

Agree with Steve, that looks like a nicely made repair section badly secured. I would also consider welding in what you have properly.

I do have a pair of these but they are for my own car. I've not seen any come up for sale for a long time so if you want to replace then you're looking at ones cut from another car.

On the plus side they're a doddle to fit as they have 4 captive nuts in them which align them nicely to the floor. Note they also weld to the inner sill.

There's a guy on Farcebook breaking an accident damaged 1500 which seems largely grot free which may yield what you need.

Good luck.

Just noticed this on Fitchet's Ebay Listing

I think it's the wrong side for you but it does look like he has some.
